What Names Have Naming Agencies Given To Their Own Naming Agency?

The name a naming agency names itself is an unvarnished window into their process and skill set. The results may surprise you. Most are descriptive, others are simply named after the founders. Some spent a few moments with a thesaurus, naming themselves Metaphor, Lexicon, Catchword, Idiom, etc.

Those from the Obfuscating School of Naming cobbled together a string of letters based upon languages their target audience doesn’t speak – perhaps just because they could get the dot com: Nomenon, Nomina, Nomino, Tanj, Zinzin, Cintara, et al.

The full list of Naming Agency names resides here, humanely caged for your viewing pleasure.

The Best Accidental Fetish Name By A Major Brand In The 21rst Century, The Igor Award Goes To….GAP!

Yes, The Gap, for 2011’s Pegged Boyfriend jeans. Buzzfeed mentioned it briefly, to zero comments. But those were more innocent times. The Blogosphere was more aggressive, and the pants were quickly renamed “Cuffed Boyfriend“, perhaps an homage to the original name. You can still find them on eBay and Poshmark. NOT SAFE FOR WORK, a Google search (you are on your own if you click on Image or Video results) would have helped the mad branding scientists at Gap, who were simply creating a hybrid of their popular Boyfriend and Pegged jeans. Giggity.

Gap is nominated for a second Igor in The Best Accidental Acronym By A Major Brand category. Stay tuned.
